The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled forward Frederick Gaudreau from their taxi squad and placed forward Jared McCann on injured reserve.

Gaudreau, 27, could make his Penguins debut Thursday in a road contest against the New York Islanders.

A free agent signing this past offseason, Gaudreau has spent the past six seasons in the Nashville Predators organization. Spending all of the 2019-20 season with the Milwaukee Admirals, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Predators, Gaudreau appeared in 42 games and scored 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists).

His last NHL action came in 2018-19 when he appeared in 55 games for the Predators and scored four points (one goal, three assists).

The Penguins signed Gaudreau (6-foot, 197 pounds) to a one-year two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $700,000 on Oct. 10.

McCann’s placement on injured reserve is retroactive to Feb. 6. During Saturday’s 4-3 road loss to the Islanders, McCann left the game in the first period because of an undisclosed injury. On Wednesday, coach Mike Sullivan indicated McCann would be sidelined on a “week-to-week” basis.
