Zach Lauzon, a defenseman chosen by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round of the 2017 NHL draft, has retired due to concussion-related problems, TVA Sports in Quebec reported Wednesday.
Lauzon, 20, did not play last season because of the injury. The Penguins did not offer him an NHL contract but did invite him to development camp. He was on the team’s rookie tournament roster as recently as last week.
He was planning to play at the University of New Brunswick before concussion symptoms returned during training in August.
