Penguins' Jake Guentzel earns NHL honor
Carrying a six-game scoring streak into Tuesday night’s meeting with the San Jose Sharks, Pittsburgh Penguins winger Jake Guentzel was named the NHL’s third star of week Monday.
Guentzel had five goals and an assist in three games last week, including a hat trick in a 7-4 Penguins victory over Anaheim on Friday and two goals in a 5-2 loss to Los Angeles on Saturday. His goal total tied Carolina’s Sebastian Aho and Tampa Bay’s Brayden Point for the league lead.
Guentzel has seven goals and 10 points during his six-game scoring streak. He leads the Penguins with 23 goals in 45 games this season.
Calgary defenseman Mark Giordano, who led the league in scoring with eight points in four games, was named the first star of the week. St. Louis goalie Jordan Binnington, who went 3-0-0 with a .974 save percentage, was the second star.
