Penguins forward Nick Bonino recorded the primary assist on an opening goal by linemate Rocco Grimaldi and helped the United States defeat Austria, 4-1, in a preliminary round game at Nokia Arena at Nokia Arena in Tampere, Finland on Wednesday.

Deployed as the United States’ top center, Bonino logged 17:41 of ice time on 20 shifts, was 7 for 13 (53.8%) on faceoffs and recorded two shots.

Fellow Penguins forward Drew O’Connor, serving as the United States’ second-line center, clocked 18:10 of ice time on 19 shifts and was 5 for 8 (62.5%) on faceoffs with two shots.

Penguins defensive prospect Thimo Nickl skated on Austria’s third pairing and recorded 15:47 of ice time on 21 shifts.

Penguins defenseman P.O Joseph recorded 20:50 of ice time on 27 shifts for Canada in a 5-1 win against Kazakhstan at Riga Arena in Riga Latvia.

Mainly deployed on Canada’s second pairing, Joseph was held without a shot.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins forward Justin Addamo scored his second goal of the tournament for France in a 5-3 loss to Finland at Nokia Arena.

A product of Robert Morris, Addamo centered France’s second line and had 16:30 of ice time on 22 shifts, was 6 for 13 (41.5%) on faceoffs and had one shot.

Former Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta recorded one assist for Finland.
