Penguins forward Jared McCann will miss Tuesday’s home game against the New York Rangers due to an undisclosed injury.

According to coach Mike Sullivan, McCann’s status is “day to day.”

McCann left Sunday’s 5-1 win against the Rangers at PPG Paints Arena at 14:48 of the second period.

The timing of McCann’s latest injury is hardly ideal as he has been one of the team’s more productive players with five points (three goals, two assists) in his past six games while primarily playing the left wing of the second line.

“Jared’s playing really well for us,” Sullivan said on Sunday via video conference. “He’s a good player. He brings a lot of speed, the ability to finish, he’s got good offensive instincts and I think he’s really found his game here as of late. So it’s discouraging from all our standpoints to see Jared go down with an injury. Hopefully, it’ll be something that won’t be too long. But certainly, we feel for him. That can be frustrating.”

McCann was sidelined for seven games throughout January with an undisclosed injury. Overall, he has played in 17 games this season and has 10 points (five goals, five assists).

Note:

• Forward Colton Sceviour has cleared waivers. That will permit the Penguins to assign him to their taxi squad or Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League should they choose to do so. In 16 games this season, Sceviour has two goals.

• According to Sullivan, Tristan Jarry will start in goal. Through 17 games this season, Jarry has a 9-7-1 record along with a 3.12 goals against average and an .897 save percentage.

• The Rangers are scheduled to start goaltender Keith Kinkaid. Making his season and Rangers debut in relief of starter Alexandar Georgiev on Sunday, Kinkaid made 16 saves on 18 shots in 42:46 of ice time.

In 12 career games against the Penguins, the 31-year-old Kinkaid has a 6-3-2 record along with a 3.06 goals against average and a .911 save percentage.
