Pittsburgh Penguins forward Dominik Simon underwent surgery on his left shoulder April 29 to repair a torn labrum. He is expected to be sidelined six to seven months because of the injury.
The team announced the surgery with a release Thursday.
Simon was injured during a 5-0 road loss to the San Jose Sharks on Feb. 29. At 11 minutes, 59 seconds of the third period, he was engaged in a battle with Sharks defenseman Radim Simek and fell awkwardly to the ice.

Simon, a 25-year-old native of the Czech Republic, did not play in the next five games before the NHL halted play March 12 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
A versatile player who has been used at all three forward positions, Simon appeared in 64 games this season and has 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists).
In the final year of a two-year contract with a salary cap hit of $750,000, Simon is a pending restricted free agent after this season.
