Penguins forward Brandon Tanev was sporting a laceration on the left side of his nose after practice. That blemish was the byproduct of a punch from Columbus Blue Jackets forward Pierre-Luc Dubois during the second period of Friday’s 5-2 road loss.
During a scrum, Dubois slugged Tanev with a gloved fist and appeared to press Tanev’s visor onto his nose, causing the cut.
“There was a scrum,” Tanev said. “Obviously, he got me pretty good, and I was bleeding with a pretty big cut. But that’s a part of hockey. No comment after that.”
Tanev, who wore a face shield for the remainder of the game, had plenty of comments in a private conversation after the game. His comments were audible to anyone who walked by him Friday in the hallways of Nationwide Arena. He also had bandages stuffed up his left nostril that night.
On Monday, he reported little in the way of lasting effects.
“It’s a little sore, but it’s part of the game,” Tanev said. “It is what it is. You just move on and look forward to playing the next one.”
Tanev and the Penguins are scheduled for a rematch with Dubois and the Blue Jackets on Dec. 12 at PPG Paints Arena.
