The Penguins drafted forward Raivis Ansons in the fifth round of the NHL Draft.

A native of Riga, Latvia, Ansons spent last season with Baie-Comeau Drakkar of the Quebec Major Hockey League. Teammates with forward Nathan Legare, the Penguins’ third-round selection in 2019, Ansons, 18, appeared in 60 QMJHL games in 2019-20 and scored 35 points (13 goals, 22 assists).

Ansons, a left-handed shot, is listed at 6-foot-1 and 191 pounds.

The Penguins acquired this pick and a seventh-round selection (No. 211 overall) from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for the 139th overall selection, also in the fifth round. Eventually, the Penguins dealt the 211th pick to the Washington Capitals for a seventh-round selection in 2021.
