The Pittsburgh Penguins brought on Kori Cheverie as a guest coach for the 2023-24 season. Her appointment was announced by the team Friday.
Cheverie will work with the team’s coaching staff during the upcoming development camp, which begins Saturday, and will assist during training camp and periodically throughout the 2023-24 campaign.
Her appointment is part of the NHL Coaches’ Association Guest Coach Program.
Cheverie, 36, has been an assistant coach with the Canadian Women’s Team since 2021 and won a gold medal with Canada in 2022. A native of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Cheverie became the first woman to coach a Canadian men’s national team, serving as an assistant at International Ice Hockey Federation’s (IIIHF) World Under 18 Junior Championship in 2022.
Also in 2022, Cheverie worked with the Arizona Coyotes’ coaching staff during that team’s development camp.
