Pat Narduzzi and Chan Gailey, football coaches with strong ties to Pittsburgh and the ACC, teamed up to win the Southern Company Peach Bowl Challenge and $32,500 each for their respective charities Tuesday.

The team of Narduzzi and Gailey recorded an eagle and six birdies, including three on holes 16-18, to win the title at the Reynolds Lake Oconee course near Atlanta.

Narduzzi has been Pitt’s coach since 2015, and Gailey was the Steelers’ offensive coordinator and Georgia Tech head coach during a career that dates to 1974.

They finished with a combined score of 44 points to overtake the two runner-up teams of Clemson’s Dabo Swinney and former Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson and Syracuse’s Dino Babers and Rick Neuheisel, whose 34-year coaching career included stints at UCLA, Colorado and Washington.

“When you have a great partner, that makes it easy,” Narduzzi said. “Chan putted like crazy and came up with a gigantic putt on 18 and just knocked it down for us. We finished strong, though, and that is what a good team does, finish strong.”

“It was fun, we had a good time, and it’s all for great charities, and that is what we are excited about,” Gailey said.

Narduzzi’s charity is UPMC Children’s Hospital, and Gailey was playing for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Georgia region. Pitt’s coach has won a total of $137,500 in the event’s history. Gailey’s total prize bumps to $87,500 all-time for his charities.

The Southern Company Peach Bowl Challenge has contributed a total of $9.3 million in scholarship and charity since 2007.
