Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby (87) and Dallas Stars defenseman Esa Lindell (23) skate for the puck during the first period of an NHL hockey game in Dallas, Saturday, March 23, 2019.

Unlike some professional teams in town, there was an utter lack of drama when the Pittsburgh Penguins announced their internal team awards Thursday. Sidney Crosby was voted Team MVP and won the Player’s Player Award, to the surprise of no one.

Crosby leads the team and is sixth in the league in scoring with 33 goals and 94 points in 74 games this season. His plus-19 rating is second on the team.

Matt Murray and Bryan Rust shared the community service award.

Murray makes donations to children’s charities in Pittsburgh and his hometown of Thunder Bay, Ontario, for each save he makes. Rust donates tickets to and meets with families raising children with emotional and mental health needs at each home game.

Follow the Pittsburgh Penguins all season long.
