Pitt continued its strong early start to the 2024 recruiting season Tuesday when tight end Eric Ingwerson announced his verbal commitment to the Panthers.
Ingwerson, who will be a senior at Papillion-La Vista South High School in Nebraska, is the sixth member of coach Pat Narduzzi’s current class of prospects to give Pitt a verbal commitment and the second in the past five days.

Nine months before the first signing period, Pitt’s class is ranked No. 18 in the nation, according to Rivals.com, just a shade under Penn State and Iowa, who are tied for 16th. Pitt is fourth in the ACC, behind No. 4 Florida State, No. 5 Clemson and No. 7 Wake Forest.
Ingwerson could make a good red zone target for future Pitt quarterbacks. He stands 6-foot-7, 225 pounds and is athletic enough to play defensive end for the football team and assume a prominent role on the basketball team.
If he signs a letter of intent, Ingwerson will be the first high school tight end to join the Panthers as a scholarship player since Pitt signed three in its 2021 class: Gavin Bartholomew, Cole Mitchell and Jake Renda.
