Minor league report: Valtteri Puustinen scores twice in Penguins win

A pair of goals by forward Valtteri Puustinen led the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 4-1 win against the rival Hershey Bears at the Giant Center in Hershey on Saturday.

Linemates Danton Heinen and Philip Tomasino each recorded two assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (17-5-1-0) while forwards Gabe Klassen and Aidan McDonough each contributed a goal.

Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 27 saves on 28 shots to improve his record to 4-1-0.

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Hartford Wolf Pack on Wednesday, 7 p.m.


Forwards Matty De St. Phalle and Connor Lockhart each had a goal and an assist for the Wheeling Nailers in a 3-1 win against the Greensboro Gargoyles at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va. The result extended a winning streak to three games.

Defenseman Brent Johnson recorded two assists for Wheeling (17-3-1-0) while forward Craig Armstrong contributed a goal.

Nailers goaltender Taylor Gauthier, sidelined since suffering an undisclosed injury during the Pittsburgh Penguins’ training camp in September, made his season debut and stopped 22 of 23 shots.

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Gargoyles on Sunday, 4:10 p.m.
