Minor league report: Penguins pound Phantoms

Forwards Avery Hayes and Aidan McDonough each had a goal and two assists for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 6-2 win against the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms at Mohegan Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (16-5-1-0) also got a goal and an assist each from forwards Tristan Broz, Danton Heinen and Sam Poulin.

Goaltender Sergei Murashov made 34 saves on 36 shots to improve his record to 7-2-0.

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Hershey Bears on Saturday, 7 p.m.


A goal and an assist by forward Craig Armstrong helped the Wheeling Nailers claim a 3-1 win against the Greensboro Gargoyles at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

Linemate Randy Hernandez recorded two assists for Wheeling (16-3-1-0) while forwards Ryan Mahshie and Zach Urdahl each contributed a goal.

Goaltender Maxim Pavlenko made 20 saves on 21 shots, boosting his record to 7-3-0.

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Gargoyles on Saturday, 7:10 p.m.
