Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins goaltender Joel Blomqvist suffered an undisclosed injury during a 5-2 loss to the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms in Game 1 of an Atlantic Division first-round playoff series at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.

Per Inside AHL Hockey, Penguins coach Kirk MacDonald indicated Blomqvist “tweaked something” and that led to him leaving the contest following the second period. Blomqvist took the loss after making 23 saves on 26 shots.

Backup goaltender Taylor Gauthier replaced Blomqvist and stopped five of seven shots in the third period.

Forward Avery Hayes had a goal and an assist for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Highlights:

Lehigh Valley will host Game 2 of the best-of-three series on Friday, 7:05 p.m.


Goaltender Sergei Murashov made 17 saves on 21 shots for the Wheeling Nailers, who were beaten by the Norfolk Admirals, 5-1, in Game 3 of a North Division semifinal series at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.

Norfolk leads the best-of-seven series, 3-0.

Forward Matt Koopman scored the lone goal for Wheeling.

The Nailers host Game 4 on Friday, 7:10 p.m.
