Latrobe grad Taylor Miller earns CSCAA All-American honors

Latrobe graduate Taylor Miller did not get to qualify for this season’s NCAA Division I women’s diving championship meet but earned a top honor by coming close.

Miller, an Ohio University sophomore, was selected as an All-American on the 3-meter board by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America. Though the NCAA meet was canceled because of the coronavirus, divers entered in uncontested events from the Zone C qualification meet were named.

Miller qualified for the zone meet, which was supposed to be in March at Kentucky, in the 1-meter and 3-meter events. One of five zones in the nation, Zone C consists of schools from Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

In 3-meter, Miller made the cut with 291.97 points on six dives against Marshall.

It was the second season she qualified on both boards.

“It was disappointing (not to compete), but I am looking forward to coming back stronger,” said Miller, the 2018 WPIAL Class AAA girls 1-meter bronze medalist. “I do a bunch of dryland workouts that my coach provides.

“Her workouts really help me stay in shape. I run a lot, and now that it’s warm out, I kick in the pool.”

Bobcats diving coach Britni Fisher said Miller, who plans to major in nursing and minor in business, had a challenging year.

“She’s bright, driven, and I’m confident she will be coming back with a new fire lit under her,” Fisher said.

Miller’s sister, Jordyn, who signed a letter of intent to compete for the Bobcats next season, said her sister is a tough act to follow. Jordyn placed eighth in this season’s WPIAL Class AAA championship.

“I know the coaches are expecting a lot from me,” she said.

Penn-Trafford alum and Akron freshman Paige Kalik (women’s 3-meter) was among other Division I All-Americans.

In D-III, Penn-Trafford graduate and Chicago freshman Logan Sherwin (men’s 1-meter and 3-meter) was selected. Greensburg Central Catholic alum and Johns Hopkins junior Mikayla Bisignani (200-yard freestyle relay) and Derry grad and Saint Vincent junior Zach Baum (100 butterfly) were among picks in swimming.

Individuals and relays selected to the NCAA D-III championship meet were named All-Americans.

Belle Vernon alum and Nova Southeastern freshman Robert Spekis (100 breaststroke) made All-America in an uncontested event in the D-II championship.
