Kevin Gorman's Who runs the North?: Lamar Jackson running into record books for Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens already established that they run not only the AFC North but the conference.

Lamar Jackson ran into the record books, with his arm and legs.

Jackson completed his second perfect passer rating of the season – the first quarterback to do so since Ben Roethlisberger in 2007 – and joined Joe Montana and Aaron Rodgers as the only players in the Super Bowl era to throw three touchdown passes, run for a touchdown and have a perfect passer rating in a game.

That’s some select company, even if came in a 49-13 victory over the winless Cincinnati Bengals. Jackson completed 15 of 17 passes for 223 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 65 yards on seven carries, including an electrifying 47-yard score.

No wonder Bengals coach Zac Taylor called Jackson “the most dynamic quarterback I’ve ever seen,” and Jackson has helped the Ravens pull away from the pack in the AFC North.

But the showdown between the other second-year quarterbacks in the division will be the story of this week, as Mason Rudolph leads the Pittsburgh Steelers against Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night.

Baltimore Ravens

Result: Beat the Cincinnati Bengals, 49-13.

Highlights: Jackson’s 47-yard touchdown was mesmerizing, as he faked out one Bengals defender and spun past another in a highlight-reel worthy run to lead the Ravens to their fifth win in a row.

Result: Lost to the Baltimore Ravens, 49-13.

Highlights: Joe Mixon rushed for 114 yards on 30 carries, his first 100-yard game this season, and added two catches for 37 yards to compile 151 yards total offense.

Lowlights: Ryan Finley completed 16 of 30 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown but Ravens cornerback Marcus Peters returned an interception 89 yards for a touchdowns. The Bengals have lost 11 consecutive games, dating to last season.

Highlights: Nick Chubb rushed for 116 yards on 20 carries, his fourth 100-yard game of the season. The second-year running back is 81 yards shy of 1,000. Jim Brown owns the franchise single-season record with 1,293.

Lowlights: Despite 12 plays in the red zone, the Browns managed only three points. They were stopped on eight consecutive plays from the 1-yard line, and failed to score a touchdown even after two pass-interference penalties.

Result: Beat the Los Angeles Rams, 17-12.

Highlights: Free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick returned a fumble recovery 43 yards for a touchdown, his second consecutive game with a touchdown. Fitzpatrick also intercepted a pass in the final minute, his fourth pick in the past three games and fifth of the season.

Lowlights: Despite the disruptive presence of Aaron Donald, the Steelers tried to throw out of their own end zone and took a safety when Donald and Clay Matthews sacked Rudolph.
