Tidbits: Was a second-team all-America and named the Big Ten running back of the year for this past season. … His 21 rushing touchdowns ranked sixth in the country and set an Iowa program record. … His rushing yardage total was seventh-most nationally last season. … Also was honorable mention all-Big Ten as a true freshman in 2022, when he had 779 yards and six touchdowns rushing. … Johnson is the second Iowa player the Steelers drafted in a span of four picks dating to defensive lineman Logan Lee in the sixth round last season. Only one other Iowa player had been drafted by the Steelers since the seven-round format was introduced in 1994. … Is the first running back the Steelers drafted since Najee Harris was the pick in the 2021 first round. … Johnson had 12 career games of 100 or more rushing yards and two in which he surpassed 200 yards. … Johnson scored at least one touchdown in each of the 12 games he played last season. He had a rushing touchdown in each of the first 11 such games. … Johnson ran the 40-yard dash in 4.57 seconds, tied for 19th among the 24 running backs who ran at the NFL combine. His 10-yard split of 1.62 seconds was tied for the worst time among running backs.

NFL Draft Day 2:

• Steelers select Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson in 3rd round of NFL Draft • Tim Benz: With Kaleb Johnson, Steelers go for 'perfect fit' as Shedeur Sanders' slide continues • Mark Madden: Steelers surprised talking heads with sensible 1st-round draft choice • Tim Benz: Blissfully boring Steelers pick the right draft to play it straight with Derrick Harmon
