Jeannette's Robert Kennedy signs with Chargers
Robert Kennedy is on the doorstep of making his dream come true.
The Jeannette alum continued his ascent to pro football, signing as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday night.
The defensive back vaults into the NFL after he played a graduate season at N.C. State.
Warming up quickly to ACC football, “Poogie” had 33 tackles, 11⁄2 sacks and two interceptions this season after moving to nickel back.
Kennedy (5-foot-10, 188 pounds) began his career at a junior college, Lackawanna in Scranton, spending two years there before stops at East Carolina (one season) and Old Dominion (two seasons).
Pro Football Focus rated Kennedy as the top safety transfer in Division I-FBS.
A former Mr. PA Football selection, Kennedy was a standout quarterback and defensive back at Jeannette, where he led the Jayhawks to WPIAL and PIAA championships.
