Former Jeannette star Ciara Gregory has a bond with the North Carolina-Charlotte women’s basketball program.
The former 49ers sharpshooter has lived in the Charlotte area since she graduated a couple of years ago and she routinely keeps up with the team.
The 3-point record-holder will be around the program a lot more now. She is part of the team again.
Gregory is joining Cara Consuegra’s coaching staff as a graduate manager.
“I missed hoops,” said Gregory, who is the all-time leading scorer at Jeannette. “I really got the coaching itch. It’s a great opportunity to get my feet wet in this position and to test the waters.”
As part of the grad-assistant accord, Gregory will pursue a master’s degree at the university. She has been working for Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Gregory’s duties as a team assistant will include video and scouting projects, helping with recruiting visits, handling the team’s social media accounts, assisting with team practices and coordinating community service work.
Charlotte 3-point records for makes (235) and attempts (695) belong to Gregory, who had seven games at the college level where she made six or more 3s. She had a 35-point game against Davidson, a home arena record.
She scored 1,031 career points for the 49ers.
Gregory graduated in 2017 with a major in psychology and a minor in American studies. Her master’s will be in arts and liberal studies with a focus on psychology.
She will help coach another former WPIAL standout, recent Franklin Regional grad Cali Konek, a freshman at Charlotte.
