Demetrious Cox is ready to start a new chapter in his football career.
The former Jeannette and Michigan State standout was selected Wednesday in the XFL Draft.
He was the second player picked in the fifth round — the 34th pick overall — by the New York Guardians.
A safety, Cox was cut by the Cincinnati Bengals in the preseason after signing a reserve/futures contract. He bounced around practice squads with the Bengals, Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals before returning to Cincinnati.
He played in four games with the Panthers in 2017.
