The Pittsburgh Pirates, who have helped facilitate the covid-19 vaccination of more than 16,000 people, are now offering free tickets as an incentive to those who are still unvaccinated.

The Pirates will serve as hosts Saturday at PNC Park to Major League Baseball’s “MLB Vaccinate at the Plate” campaign that encourages teams to host vaccination events and offer incentives to counteract hesitancy to get the shots.

All unvaccinated people who receive a covid-19 vaccination shot Saturday will receive a voucher for two free tickets to a Pirates game of their choice this season.

People can pre-register at pirates.com/vaccination, but walk-ups are welcome.

The event, held in partnership with with Allegheny Health Network and Highmark Health, will be held in the Jim Beam Left Field Lounge from noon to 2 p.m.

This will be the 11th on-site vaccination event the Pirates, AHN and Highmark have held at PNC Park, including the first large-scale vaccination in Pittsburgh on Feb. 6.

“Since the beginning of the pandemic we have worked with AHN and Highmark Health to ensure many throughout our community are able to get the vaccine as safely and efficiently as possible,” Pirates president Travis Williams said in a statement. “As we plan to open the ballpark without seating restrictions on July 1, we are proud to support this MLB initiative and offer another opportunity for our fans and our city to safely return to normal activities.”

People seeking the vaccine should use the Jim Beam Left Field Lounge entrance on Federal Street next to the Willie Stargell statue. Pre-registered individuals are asked to arrive 10 minutes prior to their appointment and have ID ready for entrance.

Masks will be required.
