Former Steelers OT Dan Moore agrees to sign with Titans for $82 million: report
Dan Moore Jr., the Pittsburgh Steelers’ starting left tackle the past four seasons, has signed with the Tennessee Titans for a reported $82 million.
In a move that was expected, the Steelers allowed Moore to depart in free agency four years after he ascended to starter as a rookie fourth-round pick. Moore was the Steelers’ left tackle for all but two of their 71 games (including playoffs) since but was expendable after the organization selected tackles in the first round of the draft each of the past two years.
Last month at the combine in Indianapolis, general manager Omar Khan all but confirmed the team was parting ways with Moore when he said Broderick Jones was expected to take over as the starting left tackle this coming season. Jones, the 2023 No. 14 overall pick, had been playing at right tackle. But 2024 20th overall pick Troy Fautanu is the heir apparent at that spot.
Moore, to his credit, held on to his starting gig even after the significant draft-capital investments the Steelers made in players who appeared poised to replace him. Though he was often the target of fan ire, Moore generally provided adequate, league-average level play over his tenure as a starter for the Steelers.
But with Jones and Fautanu on board, the Steelers decided against giving Moore an extension.
According to NFL Network, Moore’s four-year contract includes $50 million guaranteed. ESPN also reported terms of the deal.
Moore joined then third-round pick Kendrick Green as rookie starters on the offensive line in 2021. Moore, who was drafted 128th overall out of Texas A&M, was open that he much preferred left tackle to moving to the right side.
Moore is expected to be highest-compensated of the Steelers free agents this spring. After the Baltimore Ravens re-signed Ronnie Stanley to a three-year, $20 million contract over the weekend, Moore was regarded as perhaps the top tackle available in free agency.
Other starting-caliber Steelers players who hit the market Monday include guard James Daniels, running back Najee Harris, linebacker Elandon Roberts, cornerbacks Donte Jackson and Cameron Sutton, quarterbacks Justin Fields and Russell Wilson and receivers Mike Williams and Van Jefferson.
NFL free agency began in earnest Monday, when the so-called “legal tampering period” opened. Contracts cannot be officially signed until the new league year begins Wednesday.
