The next chapter of Kevon Slovis’ college football career will take him nearly back to the West Coast.

Slovis, the Pitt quarterback who led the Panthers to an 8-4 record this season, announced Saturday that he has committed to BYU in Provo, Utah.

I will always be grateful for Coach Narduzzi and the time I got to spend with all of my teammates at the University of Pittsburgh. I’m excited for this new chapter and can’t wait to get to work. #GoCougs pic.twitter.com/yg0Sa4rXP6

It will be an interesting and challenging season for Slovis, who actually stays in the Power 5. He’ll enter BYU as the favorite to be the school’s starting quarterback in its first season in the Big 12.

The 2022 season at Pitt was difficult for Slovis, who suffered a concussion in the first half of the second game of the season, against Tennessee. He had led Pitt to a comeback victory against West Virginia the week previous when he threw for 308 yards and a touchdown.

But he missed the second half of the Tennessee game, the following week at Western Michigan and struggled to get in sync with his pass catchers until the end of the regular season. In his final game for Pitt, he threw for 262 yards and three touchdowns while leading a 42-16 victory at Miami.

In 11 games, he completed 58.4% of his passes for 2,397 yards, 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

After Slovis announced earlier this month his intention to transfer, Pitt quickly received a commitment from Pine-Richland graduate Phil Jurkovec, who was transferring from Boston College.
