Former NFL wide receiver Devon Wylie, who spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers organization, has died.

Wylie, who appeared in eight regular-season pro games in 2012 and 2013, was 35. Alma mater Fresno State confirmed Wylie’s death via a post to the X account for its football program.

Wylie spent two weeks during October of the 2013 season on the Steelers’ practice squad.

A Sacramento native, Wylie had 98 catches in 44 college games and added two touchdowns as a returner.

Wylie returned kicks and punts and had six receptions for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012. But he did not make the team out of training camp the following year and bounced around between nine NFL organizations and the Canadian Football League over the next five years. His only other NFL regular-season game experience came with the Tennessee Titans in November 2013 after his stint from Oct. 15-29 with the Steelers.

“I can’t believe this but that said this is a tremendous loss,” read a post from Fresno State assistant coach John Baxter on X.

Now the assistant head coach and special teams coordinator at Fresno State, Baxter was Wylie’s position coach in 2007-08.

“Being someone’s Coach is a blessing beyond words and a hardwired lifetime relationship. This is a tragic loss beyond words. What a great Bulldog, brother, son and teammate. We love you Devon Wylie! Bulldog Born…”

A cause of death has not been announced or reported.
