Former NFL lineman Albert Haynesworth hospitalized, 'in dire need of a kidney'
Former NFL defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth reached out for help on social media after he was hospitalized with kidney failure earlier this week.
A Wednesday night Instagram post from Haynesworth’s verified account shows the 38-year-old laid up in a hospital bed at a Vanderbilt University. The post requested assistance with a kidney transplant.
“I’m in dire need of a kidney,” the post said. “Mine have finally failed me on July 7, 2019.”
The defensive tackle, who was known for his chippy attitude, had a 10-year career and made two Pro Bowls while playing for the Tennessee Titans. He played two seasons for the Washington Redskins and split his final season (2011) with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He retired from the NFL in 2011 and has dealt with multiple medical issues since, according to Yahoo! Sports.
In 2016, Haynesworth said he almost died from two brain aneurysms the previous year, which led to an 11-day stay at an intensive care unit, the outlet reported.
The Instagram post alluded to the issues, as well.
“First with the brain (aneurysm) 3 seasons out of the NFL to now my kidneys failing me,” the post read.
According to NFL.com, he ended his career with 301/2 sacks, 347 tackles and 65 QB hits.
Haynesworth played college ball at Tennessee and was a first-round pick for the Titans in 2002.
