The Penguins named forward Evgeni Malkin their MVP for the 2019-20 season.

In 55 games during the regular season, Malkin led the team with with 74 points (25 points, 49 assists). Although he missed 14 games because of various ailments, Malkin finished 14th in the NHL in scoring.

Some of Malkin’s best work came while forward Sidney Crosby was out of the lineup. In the 28 games Crosby was absent because of a core muscle injury, Malkin appeared in 26 games and posted 38 points (11 goals, 27 assists) while the team had a 18-6-4 record.

It is the fifth time Malkin has received this recognition. Only forwards Mario Lemieux (12) and Sidney Crosby (eight) have received this honor more.
