Coach Joe Lewandowski guides U.S. team to upset of Serbia at 3×3 World Cup

Point Park men’s basketball coach Joe Lewandowski has Team USA poised and feeling confident after opening day of the FIBA 3x3 World Cup in Amsterdam.

The U.S. team won both of its games Wednesday, including a 21-16 victory over three-time defending champion Serbia, which had won 15 straight games.

The other victory was a painless, 22-3 rout of Turkey.

Purdue’s Robbie Hummel had 23 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the two games to lead the U.S. Kareem Maddox added eight points and 11 rebounds.

Team USA (2-0) will play two more preliminary games Friday, against South Korea (1-1) and The Netherlands (1-1). The games can be seen live at FloHoops.com.

Three other teams also started 2-0: Mongolia in Group B, Slovenia in Group C and Poland in Group D. USA is in Group A.
