The wife of Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Chad Kuhl revealed Wednesday on Twitter that the 28-year-old right-hander and their 4-month-old son, Hudson, tested positive for covid-19 and are in quarantine.

Amanda Kuhl tweeted she is negative and not presenting any symptoms but shared the challenges of dealing with covid.

“I have to wear a mask while breastfeeding my 4 month old,” Amanda Kuhl wrote. “I can’t immediately pick him up when he’s crying. I can’t kiss him. I can’t snuggle him. I have to awkwardly pass him off to his dad by laying him in a bassinet in the hall & walking away.”

Kuhl shared that the silver lining is that Hudson gets to spend more time with his father, who was placed on the covid-injured list by the Pirates. She urged readers “to stop for one moment believing that your choice only effects (sic) you. That’s not the case with this virus. Wear a mask, wash your hands & go get vaccinated.”

Asked Wednesday afternoon about dealing with MLB health and safety protocols for covid-19 during the pandemic, Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said members of the club have “done an excellent job of being hypervigilant of reporting their signs and symptoms to the medical staff.”

“Unfortunately, you can follow all of the health and safety protocols, but you still have an opportunity to become infected,” Tomczyk said. “Our group specifically is doing everything in their power to keep the team safe, themselves safe, their families safe, the ones around them safe.

“Unfortunately, we’re still in this global pandemic but it is nice to see that Major League Baseball is on top of things, is providing support for us here with our local experts, as well. But we’re still in it. We’re learning every day. We’re taking a very cautious and proactive approach to keep everybody safe.”
