Bushy Run, Latrobe advance to District 31 Legion semifinals

Two teams locked up spots in the District 31 American Legion semifinals with victories Wednesday night.

No. 2-seeded Bushy Run shut out No. 7 Kiski Valley, 7-0, at Penn-Trafford to sweep a best-of-three first-round series.

Max Pici threw a four-hitter with eight strikeouts.

Jordan Sabol and Cade Patterson had two hits, and Connor Bannias knocked in two runs with a double.

In the other Game 2 matchup, No. 4 Latrobe edged No. 5 Yough, 4-3, in nine innings.

Matt Henderson earned the victory. Ray Halahurich had three hits for Yough.

Latrobe swept Yough to advance to the semifinals.

No. 1 Hempfield East and No. 3 Unity wrapped up their first-round series Tuesday.

Hempfield East will play Latrobe at Pitt-Greensburg, and Bushy Run will take on Unity at Penn-Trafford to open the best-of-three semifinals at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
