Two hours before the start of a two-game series against the Chicago Cubs on Monday night, the Pittsburgh Pirates received a significant boost to their lineup when Bryan Reynolds was activated from the injured list and inserted into center field. He will bat second in the order against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Reynolds has been out with a strained oblique since July 11. He leads the Pirates in home runs (15), OPS (.808) and batting average among regulars (.261). His 32 RBIs tie Michael Chavis for the team lead, although Daniel Vogelbach recorded 34 before he was traded to the New York Mets last week.

To make room on the roster, the Pirates placed outfielder Jake Marisnick on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right great toe. The Pirates have four active outfielders, including Ben Gamel, Greg Allen and Cal Mitchell.

Reynolds will be flanked in the outfield at Wrigley with Gamel in left field and Mitchell in right field.
