Cleveland Browns ban wrong fan for life for pouring beer on Titans player, report says

If the Week 1 loss wasn’t bad enough for the Cleveland Browns, this might make things worse.

During the game against the Tennessee Titans, a fan poured beer on Titans players after the Tennessee defense ran an interception back for a touchdown.

The Browns claim to have identified the culprit, but — according to Cleveland Scene — they have the wrong pourer.

The report says Cleveland Browns vice president of ticket sales & service Bob Sivik called Eric Smith, claiming that Smith had been identified as the fan in question for the FirstEnergy Stadium incident.

I legit just got a got from the @Browns telling me I've been banned from the stadium for throwing the beer in Logan Ryan's face Sunday. I'm fairly certain I haven't been to a game since 2010.

The report says Smith tried to convince Sivik of his innocence, saying not only was he not at the game Sunday, but he hadn’t been to one in nearly a decade. He also was DJing a wedding while the Browns-Titans game was going on.

These rationales didn’t convince Sivik, Cleveland Scene writes, as he claimed Smith had been caught on multiple cameras around the stadium. The stadium had also matched his tattoos and claimed he had bought a ticket.

Sivik informed Smith he was banned for life.

Cleveland Music Group, Smith’s employer, defended him and corroborated his story, posting video of him working a wedding.

The Browns have not publicly commented on the incident.
