Alex Dixon scored a pair of goals for the second straight game, leading the Pittsburgh Riverhounds to a 3-2 road victory over the Charleston Battery on Friday night.
The Riverhounds (10-4-3) have won four in a row and are 5-0-1 in their last six. They lead the USL Championship’s Atlantic Division by three points over Tampa Bay. Charleston (6-6-3) lost at home for the second time this season.
Dixon’s second goal, which came in the 65th minute, was the game-winner. He settled a long lob pass in the corner of the box and buried his sixth goal of the season.
Before Dixon gave the Riverhounds the advantage for good, the teams traded goals.
In the 20th minute, Logan Gdula headed in a Zeiko Lewis free kick from just outside the penalty area for a 1-0 Charleston lead.
The Riverhounds answered less than five minutes later. Kenardo Forbes was tripped up in the penalty area, and Russell Cicerone scored from the spot on a shot through the fingertips of Battery goalkeeper Paul Lewis.
The Riverhounds took their first lead on Dixon’s first goal just before halftime. In a nifty passing sequence, Forbes hit Dani Rovira, who curled a pass back from the goal line to Dixon near the penalty spot for a goal.
Charleston tied the score in the second minute of the second half when Romario Piggott muscled the ball in off a scramble in front of goal.
The Riverhounds will return home to host Miami FC on Wednesday night.
