Another loss for Tomlin.
No, not Mike. There's a race horse named "Tomlin." And unlike her namesake, she was in action on Wild Card weekend.
The 3-year-old filly participated in the Grade 2 Santa Ynez Stakes at Santa Anita.
You guessed it. She was wearing Black and Gold!
It didn't go well.
The horse's effort eerily replicated a lot of what we've seen from the Steelers coach. Tomlin got out to an early lead and blew it. She finished middle of the pack and faded late.
In another similarity, the 2018 year for Tomlin hit a high point in November when she won the Golden Gate Debutante. That's surprising because, as we all know, Tomlin is usually no good out west.
Interestingly, Tomlin is the daughter of "Distorted Humor," which is something Steelers fans need after the second half of the 2018 football season.
Horse racing experts are high on Tomlin, but, given her name and track record, it's fair to wonder if perhaps she peaked in her second year.
Plus, Tomlin has only ever won with Bill Cowher's jockey.
So long as she never has to win a big money race in New England, Tomlin might have a future.
It's unclear if trainer Steve Specht will run the horse in the Kentucky Derby. If not, maybe Specht will replace her with another entry named "Munchak."
Unless, of course, Munchak becomes a "bronco."
