Rep. Guy Reschenthaler: Trump built greatest American economy before. He’ll do it again.
Thanks to President Trump’s well-thought-out policy decisions since the beginning of the global coronavirus pandemic, Americans should have confidence that better days are ahead. Policies the president enacted like the Payment Protection Program provided much needed relief for businesses affected by the coronavirus and brought Pennsylvanians back to work. The latest jobs report in May set a record for the largest one-month job gain in U.S. history. American businesses unexpectedly added almost 3 million jobs in important industries like manufacturing, restaurants, construction and retail, far better than the nearly 9 million job loss predicted by economists.
It is evident that what we need now more than ever is four more years of Trump’s successful leadership. Before putting the economy on pause, which was necessary to flatten the curve and save tens of thousands of American lives, our economy was healthy, strong and hitting record-breaking highs. This solid foundation, which Trump built over the past three years of his presidency, strengthened our ability to withstand one of the most abrupt and unprecedented economic disruptions in American history.
Trump’s business experience enabled him to lead the greatest national mobilization since World War II. His ability to bring the public and private sectors together was unprecedented and empowered U.S. factories to immediately start producing critical supplies like ventilators, personal protective equipment (PPE) and N95 masks. Having these private companies voluntarily step up to make this lifesaving equipment on demand is a true display of the American spirit of ingenuity and strength.
It’s also a very encouraging sign that the U.S. has the potential to rebuild its supply-chain self-sufficiency and lessen its dependence on other nations, which is especially important in a time of crisis. Trump has been warning about our dependency on China since the beginning of his presidency, which is why the president has been working hard to bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S.
While there is still a long way to go until we fully recover from the economic downfall from the global pandemic, this is encouraging news that the U.S. economy is rebounding faster than expected and gives Americans the hope they need at this time.
Hardworking Pennsylvanians may view the May jobs numbers as a surprise, but this economic recovery is happening faster than anyone thought due to Trump and his administration’s clear and direct response efforts to save our economy. For so-called “experts” in the media to pride themselves in spreading negative news about the economy in hopes that it will decrease the president’s chances of reelection this November is downright appalling.
Trump recently said, “this will be the greatest American comeback in history and it’s time for us to work together to rebuild, renew and recover the great promise that is America.” This is the unifying moment our country needs right now.
Building back our country requires all Americans to come together to get the economy back to where we were before the pandemic and work to bring greater prosperity to all Americans from all backgrounds. Many of the recent job gains in May included minorities such as African Americans and Hispanic Americans. Also it’s important to remember that pre-coronavirus, African American poverty and unemployment levels hit record lows.
All Americans benefit from a strong economy and it’s imperative that we show the world that America’s best days have yet to come. This sense of national unity and pride is hopefully the powerful, motivating force that truly brings us together. The real test of the American spirit, strength and unity will be seen in the weeks and months ahead leading up to November.
Trump’s dedication to our country and relentless work ethic, as well as his natural business instincts, have proven invaluable to our nation. His early success was building skyscrapers, which eventually led him to building the greatest economy in the world and the best the U.S. has ever had. He did it once, and he can do it again. Trump is the right leader, at the right time, to get America through this and emerge even stronger than before, and he deserves four more years to do it.
Guy Reschenthaler, a Republican, represents Pennsylvania’s 14th Congressional District encompassing Fayette, Green and Washington counties and portions of Westmoreland County.
