Transparency is the foundation of democracy, yet our Westmoreland County commissioners continue to ignore a simple request: livestream and record public meetings. In 2025, when technology makes this inexpensive and easy, their silence raises real concerns.
Livestreaming is not a radical idea. It allows working families, seniors, and those with mobility or scheduling challenges to stay engaged. It also creates a permanent record that fosters trust and accountability. When officials avoid even responding to requests, it suggests resistance to openness, not a commitment to public service.
Commissioner Ted Kopas has expressed support for livestreaming. Commissioners Doug Chew and Sean Kertes have offered no response despite repeated inquiries. The public deserves to know where they stand.
True leadership requires transparency. Our community deserves officials who welcome scrutiny and who respect their constituents. It’s time to act — livestreaming and recording should begin immediately.
