2020 was a historically challenging and, for many people, devastating year. Families and households coped with the loss of jobs, income, homes and, in the worst cases, the lives of loved ones. But together, we did not lose hope.
The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division is grateful for the support, compassion, volunteerism and financial assistance that our neighbors provided to those most in need.
Raising funds through the Salvation Army’s iconic Red Kettle campaign was especially difficult during the 2020 holiday season. However, people in our communities responded to our Rescue Christmas initiative, as we found new ways to raise funds that will support important programming throughout 2021.
Because of you, we were able to serve thousands of meals to our neighbors in need across Western Pennsylvania over the holidays. We provided shelter, utility and other emergency assistance to individuals and families, and made sure that thousands of children had a real Christmas with gifts and a traditional holiday meal. With your help, we served 118,633 individuals who were struggling. More than 85,000 Christmas toys were distributed, and more than 75,000 people received food boxes or vouchers for holiday meals.
Today, the need is still great, so we ask that you keep those in prayer who may still need help as we begin 2021 with renewed hope and optimism. Whether you need support or want to support, we are here for you. The Salvation Army remains steadfast in serving our communities. Thank you and may God bless you.
