Letter to the editor: Support Yakopec, our full-time judge

As we approach this November’s election, I write in support of District Judge Cheryl Peck Yakopec. She has been working full time her entire career. She does not get sidetracked or distracted with a private law practice, side hustle jobs or planning special interest events, either. Not only can she serve a full six-year term, but she will hit the ground running because of her vast experience over the years.

The opposition says Yakopec is not full time. Simply look at the newspaper and see how busy the office is daily. Yakopec is working hard every day, arraigning people; holding hearings and often setting bonds; issuing search warrants; handling truancy cases, weddings and notary; and managing four staff members. Moreover, her office has one of the highest caseloads in Westmoreland County.

She also spends countless hours volunteering, supporting our community and many other charitable organizations, such as the VFW, American Legion and Catholic Daughters. If you see her at the grocery store, farmers market or anywhere in town, she is approachable and is always willing to listen and help you. She is a full-time judge, and she is awesome.
