This month, MLB assimilated all the history and statistics of the Negro Leagues. Josh Gibson leapfrogged to the top past Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb in batting average and home runs. Also playing at Offutt Field were Christy Mathewson, Johnny Lujack and George Blanda — all Hall of Fame members. It is well past the time these legends be recognized and the status of Offutt Field be elevated: “Offutt Field — Greensburg Salem’s Hall of Fame Field.” The marketing and PR potential is awesome for the school district, the city and Seton Hill University.
