Letter to the editor: Like Lennon, looking for the truth

The great John Lennon was a target of FBI surveillance by the alleged cross-dressing tyrant J. Edgar Hoover, primarily for exposing the truth. More than 50 years later, Lennon’s lyrics ring truer than ever: “I’ve had enough of reading things by neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians. All I want is the truth. Just give me some truth.”

Now, more so than in Lennon’s time, the truth is obscured, distorted and denied. Who and what to believe? To me, the past decade has revealed the complete capture and corruption of the mainstream media. They rank at the bottom of trustworthiness along with politicians and car salesmen. The internet may give access to credible information, but you must proceed with caution.

Our country has covered up the truth and deceived us in the past; what else have they been lying to us about? The implications are staggering. In a nation where trust has eroded and our moral fabric is threadbare, we are in danger. If “the truth will set you free,” then we are a captive nation.

I agree with Lennon, “I’m sick and tired of hearing things from uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocrites. All I want is the truth. Just give me some truth.”
