The Major League Baseball draft has come and gone, and once again top prospects from around the country have made their decisions to go on to the next level of their profession.

I have followed the career of Sal Frelick, who signed as the No. 1 prospect with the Milwaukee Brewers. Frelick hit .359, had a .443 on-base percentage, earned All-ACC First Team and was named ACC Baseball Defensive Player of the Year while at Boston College.

The young center fielder, who also played second base and shortstop, never committed an error in his playing days at Boston College. He also won the first American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Gold Glove award in the history of the school and was a USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award finalist, an award for the top player in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

Frelick’s dad, Jeff Frelick, grew up near South Greensburg, playing football and baseball for Greensburg Central Catholic High School. His grandfather, Henry Frelick, quarterbacked Greensburg Salem High School in the 1950s.

We here in South Greensburg wish the best for Frelick. His talent, hard work ethic and strong desire, along with God-given abilities, will enable him to fulfill the dream to be an MLB player.

And thank you, Tribune-Review, for the several fine articles about Frelick.
