When I was born many years ago, the doctor came out and told my father there had been “a problem” and he would have to choose between the mother and the baby. I hate to think what would happen nowadays, especially if Republicans succeed in this election. And it’s hard to believe there has been actual discussion in a courtroom on how close to death a woman has to be in a pregnancy emergency before she is given life-saving medical care.

I had many wonderful years with my mother because my father requested another doctor who, not fearing arrest, managed to save us both. Now, maybe the GOP needs a new slogan for their bumper stickers — “Women’s Lives Don’t Matter.”
