In his letter “Common sense biggest loser in impeachment” (Feb. 9, TribLIVE), Glenn R. Plummer forgot to mention the “common sense” that three Democratic senators should have recused themselves because they are candidates seeking to run against the president. Perhaps just a little conflict of interest!

And why didn’t the chief justice act on this? Same reason he didn’t “lecture” the Republican senators, as sought by Plummer. The chief justice has no real role in the process other than to sit and listen, and administer oaths.
