Luigi Mangione musical set to debut in San Francisco

Most are familiar with the name Luigi Mangione by now — the 26-year-old charged with killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York in December.

Well, his case is now being made into a musical.

Titled “Luigi: The Musical,” the show will debut June 13 in San Francisco at the Taylor Street Theater and is already completely sold out, People reported.

The musical is a reimagining of the musical “Chicago,” where the character Roxie Hart is based on accused murderer Beulah Annan, who was ultimately acquitted.

Mangione’s version, which comes 99 years after “Chicago” made its Broadway debut, will also feature Sean “Diddy” Combs and Sam Bankman-Fried as characters, as they are two of Mangione’s fellow inmates at the Metropolitan Detention Center, according to People.

“A wildly irreverent, razor-sharp comedy that imagines the true story of Luigi Mangione, the alleged corporate assassin turned accidental folk hero,” the theater company wrote, People reported.

It goes on to say that Mangione “navigates friendship, justice, and the absurdity of viral fame” all with “his real-life cellmates … by his side.”

Mangione pleaded not guilty on April 25, and his trial is tentatively set to begin in December.

Thompson was shot to death early in the morning of Dec. 4 outside the New York Hilton Midtown. Mangione was arrested in Altoona on Dec. 9.

A 26-year-old Ivy League graduate from a prominent Maryland real estate family, Mangione was found with a gun believed to be the one used in the shooting of Brian Thompson, as well as writings suggesting anger with corporate America, The Associated Press reported at the time.
