A spinning disk of ice that made Westbrook, Maine, a tourist destination a year ago is returning.

The city on Friday shared a photo via Twitter of a rather jagged sheet of ice gently rotating in the Presumpscot River. While it does not yet have the near-perfect round shape of last year’s phenomenon, the ice is again spinning counter-clockwise in the same location.

ICE BREAKING NEWS: Ice Disk 2020 is making a run for it. There appears to be another ice disk forming in the Presumpscot River in Westbrook. It’s not a perfect circle yet, but it is rotating counter-clockwise again & the seagulls are along for the ride. #icedisk ?:Tina Radel pic.twitter.com/6x1ZT8tR4j

“Ice Disk 2020 is making a run for it,” the City of Westbrook posted. “The seagulls are along for the ride.”

The Portland Press Herald shared a time-lapse video by Ben McCanna.

The floating ice, at times, bumps the river banks and is gradually shaped into a circle. In 2019, images of the football-field size raft went viral online and visitors flocked to Westbrook to witness, photograph and speculate about the origin of the odd circle.
