The 10th annual Pittonkatonk PGH is from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. on May 13 at Vietnam Veterans Pavilion in Schenley Park.

It’s Mother’s Day weekend. Here are some ways to spend it.

Pittonkatonk

The 10th annual Pittonkatonk PGH is from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday at Vietnam Veterans Pavilion in Schenley Park.

The event will feature music and food including local, national and international performers from Burkina Faso, Congo, Ukraine, Morocco, Detroit and more.

It began as a branch of the Honk festivals welcoming mobile marching bands from across the country. The event has expanded to include more international performers with the hopes of establishing an inclusive world music festival.

The festival is free.

Book smart

The second Greater Pittsburgh Festival of Books is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in East Liberty. This year’s event will feature more authors and expanded programming in a larger space. The inaugural festival last year had 2,500 registrants, 50 authors, and 25 poets. There will be local bookstores, national and local authors and poets, local publishers, children’s activities, live entertainment and food.

Some of the speakers include J.D. Barker, Bram Stoker-award nominee and international bestselling author of suspense thrillers; and W. Bruce Cameron, bestselling author, columnist and screenwriter, most known for “A Dog’s Purpose.” There will be a collective of comic book creators, called Comicsburgh. Duolingo will present a hands-on demo of its new app to promote literacy in children.

Registration is encouraged.

Young Americans

This is the final weekend to see Pittsburgh Public Theater’s “Young Americans.” This show by playwright Lauren Yee begins with a road trip. Joe, played by Danny Bernardo, drives from Washington, D.C., to Portland trying to win the heart of his unfamiliar new fiancée Jenny, played by Marielle Young. Twenty years later, Joe drives the same roads back to have one last adventure with their adopted daughter Lucy, played by Sammy Rat Rios, before delivering her to college.

With some unexpected detours along the way, immigrants Jenny and Joe traverse the strange territory of their new country while their daughter Lucy pieces together their bittersweet family history in this comedy about the lengths we will go for the people we love.

Shows are at 8 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday at the O’Reilly Theater, Downtown.
