Legendary rock band battling Donald Trump, backing Kamala Harris
The Foo Fighters and Donald Trump’s campaign went into the weekend going rounds, and it doesn’t look like there will any love lost when the dust has settled.
The conflict began when the former president used the band’s “My Hero” when he brought former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. up on-stage during Friday’s rally in Arizona.
Kennedy Jr. ended his campaign Friday and endorsed Trump.
If you are a Trump supporter, it was a cool moment.
If you were a member of the Foo Fighters it was, apparently, not very cool at all.
“Foo Fighters were not asked permission,” a spokesperson for the band told CBS News. “And if they were, they would not have granted it.”
Pretty direct.
But, just in case anyone still had any doubt about where the band leaned politically, CBS News said the spokesperson was not done. Per the site, the spokesperson said that any royalties received from the Trump campaign’s use of the song will be donated to the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz.
And when the “Wu Tang is for the Children” account asked the band on X, formerly Twitter, if it let Trump use the song it responded, “No.”
It then reposted the question and answer and wrote, “Let us be clear.”
The Trump campaign has reportedly claimed that it has the appropriate licensing to use the song.
And so, if you head to social media, the band is now feeling the ire of the MAGA world, and some of the responses there are not pretty.
It’s just one of several pushbacks from artists against Trump using their music. Per Billboard, Trump spokesperson Steven Chueng posted a 13-second video of Trump to X with Beyonce’s “Freedom,” playing and that drew a swift cease-and-desist letter from her record label.
Also, Isaac Hayes III recently announced that the estate of his father, legendary singer Isaac Hayes, is suing Trump for $3 million for using “Hold On, I’m Comin’,” which his father co-wrote.
