PHILADELPHIA — Vice President Kamala Harris will be in Philadelphia next Tuesday for the first campaign stop with her yet-to-be-announced running mate.

The Harris campaign confirmed to The Philadelphia Inquirer that the visit will kick off Harris’ tour through swing states with her vice presidential pick.

The timing of the visit means Harris will likely make her much-anticipated running mate selection in the next six days and introduce the candidate on Pennsylvania turf.

Starting in Pennsylvania puts her in the home state of Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, one of the top contenders to serve as her running mate. But Harris’ swing state tour also includes a stop in Arizona, the home state of Sen. Mark Kelly, the Arizona Democrat seen as one of Shapiro’s top rivals for the job.

Additional stops will include: Western Wisconsin; Detroit; Raleigh, N.C.; Savannah, Ga.; and Las Vegas, according to the campaign.

The campaign provided no further details about the timing or location of the visit in Philadelphia or who might appear beside her.

Shapiro has walked a political tightrope, campaigning aggressively for Harris but staying mum on his interest in the job or his prospects.

Shapiro said Tuesday he had not spoken to Harris and again referred to the Harris campaign questions about whether he’d submitted vetting materials for consideration.

The visit will be Harris’ first to the critical state since she became the presumptive nominee last week. She was a frequent visitor while campaigning for President Joe Biden in the last year.

Her campaign looked into visiting Philadelphia the day after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race, but logistics complications landed her at campaign headquarters in Wilmington instead, according to reports.

Over the last week, Harris has made stops in Wisconsin, Indiana, Houston, and Massachusetts.

Asked on Tuesday if she’d selected a running mate, Harris said “not yet.”

Other names in the mix include Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
