Presidential candidates may soon be putting fries on their salads considering how often they are visiting Pittsburgh lately.
Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz are both visiting Pittsburgh this week as part of separate trips. With Harris rallying with union members in Pittsburgh on Monday, that will mark the ticket’s third trip to the Steel City in just one week.
The White House Press Office’s schedule for the week has Harris returning to Pittsburgh on Thursday. The details of that visit have not been announced. It will be Harris’ 10th visit to Pennsylvania this year, and her third trip to the Pittsburgh region this year.
Walz will be arriving at the Pittsburgh International Airport on Wednesday afternoon and then participating in a political event somewhere in the region, according to the Harris-Walz campaign.
The pair toured Beaver and Allegheny counties last month, visiting iconic Pittsburgh stops like Sheetz, Primanti Bros. restaurant, and Aliquippa’s High School football stadium, now called Heinz Field.
Their rivals, former President Donald Trump and his running mate Ohio Sen. JD Vance, have also been barnstorming in Western Pennsylvania lately. Trump rallied in Johnstown last Friday, and Vance was in Erie last week and in Lower Burrell earlier in August.
Trump will also return to Pennsylvania this week. He is hosting a town hall-style event in Harrisburg on Wednesday with Fox News.
Allegheny County Democratic Committee chair Sam Hens-Greco said the Harris campaign understands the importance of Pennsylvania in the race, and its 19 Electoral College votes, the most of any swing state.
He expects Harris and Walz to keep up in their frequent visits to the region. He said he wouldn’t be surprised if they visited Westmoreland or Washington counties, and not just the city.
Hens-Greco said that Allegheny County is getting closer to overtaking Philadelphia as the highest volume of Democratic votes of any county in the state.
“Our number one goal is to help Harris to beat Trump, but our second goal is to beat Philadelphia,” he said. “It is critical for us to turn out the votes in Allegheny County.”
