Some Pennsylvanians appear to be looking for ways to work on their inner self in 2023.

Pennsylvania, along with 11 other states, listed therapy as the top New Year’s resolution, in a recent study conducted by Zippia, a job search website.

Nationally, going to therapy was named the most popular resolution, according to the study.

The other states listing therapy as the No. 1 resolution are Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York and Tennessee.

Therapy is the most popular New Year’s Resolution in America.

Zippia analyzed data from Google searches to find each state’s most popular 2023 new year’s resolution.

Next up in the resolution department was losing weight, the most popular choice in eight states.

Other popular resolutions included obtaining better sleep, landing a new job, reducing alcohol intake, reading more, saving money and making more money.

According to the study, 41% of Americans make resolutions, but only 9% are successful in keeping them.

According to data from the National Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention, mental health treatment among U.S. adults of all ages increased from 19.2% to 21.6% from 2019 to 2021.

In Pennsylvania, more than 1.8 million adults have a mental health condition, that’s more than six times the population of Pittsburgh, according to data from the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

In February 2021, 39.8% of adult Pennsylvanians reported symptoms of depression or anxiety and 25.7% of those individuals were unable to get needed therapy, according to NAMI.

Covid-19 and pandemic conditions were listed as contributing factors affecting mental health by more than half of Americans.
